Shut off the water supply to the toilet tank and flush the toilet. Use rags, sponges or paper towels to absorb the water remaining in the tank.
Place a utility tub or small bucket beneath the inlet fitting before disconnecting it from the water supply so no water spills on the floor. Loosen the fitting either by hand or using channel-lock pliers. If the ring is rusted or difficult to turn, then spray with WD-40 to make it more maneuverable before twisting it off.

Turn on the water supply to the toilet tank while checking for leaks. Flush each handle to check for leaks again. If there is leakage, then find the source and either disconnect and readjust the parts involved or tighten the nuts or bolts near the area, depending on what is needed.
