If your group is raising money to finance a project, it's often a good idea to set a specific goal to keep people motivated and on track. One method to encourage reaching the target is to set up a goal thermometer, which is a graphic displaying the amount you seek to raise at the top, with steps along the way like a temperature thermometer, to show how much money has been raised so far. You can set one of the free goal thermometers on the Internet to help raise funds for your organisation, or to support non-monetary numerical goals such as membership renewal or group weight loss.

Instructions

  1. 1

Go to the Easy Fundraising Ideas site (see References).

  2. 2

Type the amount of your goal in the "Your Goal" box. Type in the current amount of money raised in the "Amount Raised" box. Click "Make My Thermometer." A graphic will appear on the page of a thermometer representing your goal and the amount of money raised so far.

  3. 3

Copy the HTML code from the "Thermometer HTML Code" box and paste it into a page on your organisation's website so that the thermometer will appear on your site. Whenever you need to update the amount raised, go back to the Easy Fundraising website, type in the latest amount, and generate new HTML code to use.

  1. 1

Go to the Go Green website (see References). Type the amount you've raised so far in the "Amount Raised" box. Type your goal in the "Your Goal" box.

  2. 2

Click on the "Units" pull-down menu to pick dollars or another unit to use in the thermometer. You can choose "No Units" if you are measuring a goal other than money, such as the number of people renewing their membership, or total pounds for a group trying to lose weight together. Click "Make My Thermometer." A graphic will appear on the page of a thermometer representing your goal and the current progress toward that goal, using the units you chose.

  3. 3

Copy the HTML code from the "Thermometer HTML Code" box and paste it into a page on your organisation's website so that the thermometer will appear on your site. Whenever you need to update the amount raised, go back to the Go Green website, type in the latest amount, and generate new HTML code to use.

  1. 1

Go to the Xdal website (see References). Click the "Show Text" checkbox if you want to display text with your goal thermometer. Type the text of your goal, such as "Money Raised" or "Pounds Lost" in the "Goal Text" box. Type the goal amount in the "Goal" box.

  2. 2

Type the current amount in the "Current" box, type the latest date in the "As Of" box, and type in the suffix, such as "Million," in the "Suffix" box.

  3. 3

Click on the "Unit" pull-down menu to select the units to measure in, such as dollars or none, and then click on the "Graduations" pull-down menu to select how many levels will appear. Type the width in pixels you want the image to be in the "Image Width" box, and then click "Submit." Copy the URL from the resulting page displaying your thermometer image, and paste it into a page on your organisation's website so the thermometer will appear on your site.
