How to Disable HP Protect Tools

Updated April 17, 2017

HP Protect Tools work in background mode on Hewlett Packard (HP) computers. They allow you to have your own security settings without effecting the settings of others who use the same computer. These tools manage the security policies by determining who has access to data storage devices, control access and systems. HP Protect Tools are not mandatory to operate the computer. At times, they may even interfere with other applications. Therefore, you can disable them.

Go to the Start menu, select "All Programs" and click "HP ProtectTools Security Manager" from the programs list. This will bring up the HP Protect Tools window.

Click "Settings." Clicking this will bring up a new menu on the right side.

Turn off elements of HP Protect Tools by clicking the box to the left of the tool name. A tool is turned on when a green check appears in the box. It is off when the box is empty.

Close the HP Protect Tools window.

Restart the computer to ensure that the new settings are working.

Turning off security devices can leave the computer vulnerable. Be careful when choosing which HP Protect Tools to turn off.
