How to Convert BTU to KW With a Calculator

A British Thermal Unit, or BTU, is the amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of a pound of water by 1 degree Fahrenheit. BTUs per hour is the way that BTUs can be measured as a unit of output power (BTUs per hour is often informally referred to simply as BTUs). A kilowatt, or kW, is another unit of more general metric measurement that also records the amount of output power. You can convert BTUs per hour to kilowatts by using an ordinary calculator.

Enter the amount of BTUs per hour into your calculator using the keypad.

Enter the value 0.000292875, which is the conversion constant from BTUs/hour to kilowatt, using your keypad and hit enter. For an example, if you have 10,000 BTUs per hour, then multiplying it by 0.000292875 should result in 2.92875 kilowatts.
