How to Change Fonts in Joomla

Changing a font in Joomla should be a rather simple task. Because of the way Joomla is designed, it is not as cut and dry as you may think. The important thing to realise is that Joomla is designed to use a font from the user's computer, so you do not want to use a custom font or one that is specific to just Mac or PC. Joomla is one of the more popular content management systems (CMS) in use, as of 2010, so it is important that you can change the font within your site to allow your site to look different from others. While Joomla does not make it as simple as changing the font on your computer, you can still do it rather quickly.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Open your Internet browser.

  2. 2

    Navigate to your Joomla admin login. The URL is typically:

    http://www.yoursitename.com/administrator

  3. 3

    Enter your admin username and password.

  4. 4

    Click the "Extensions" menu option.

  5. 5

    Select "Template Manager."

  6. 6

    Select the current template you are using, and click "Edit."

  7. 7

    Click "Edit CSS."

  8. 8

    Edit the CSS code within the CSS file. Changing the font may depend on the structure of the CSS file, but the base font will usually be declared in a body tag like this:

    body {

    font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;

    font-size: 12px;

    colour: #CCCCCC;

    line-height:20px;

    background-colour: #222222;

    }

    From here, you can change the font size. Common font styles are your best bet since the users will see whatever fonts are installed in their computers

  9. 9

    Save your changes.

Tips and warnings

  • In Joomla! (TM) 1.0+, the template.css file will most likely be called template_css.css and can be edited through the Joomla! admin.
