Windows Vista Ultimate is an operating system developed and supported by Microsoft. When you install a new copy of Vista Ultimate, you will be prompted to enter a genuine serial number product key, unique to the copy of Vista you own. Locating the product key will depend on whether you purchased a computer with Vista Ultimate already installed or if you installed the operating system from a disk.

Instructions

    Installed Vista Ultimate

  1. 1

Locate the product information stickers on your computer's tower. These often appear on the top, side or back of the computer's case. The Vista Ultimate sticker will usually be yellow, have a 25-digit serial number and "Windows" printed in the top right corner. If your computer does not have a Windows sticker, continue to the next step.

  2. 2

Locate the Vista Ultimate product sticker inside the documentation packet that came with the computer. This may be found on the front of a manual or on the outside of the software CD case.

  3. 3

Write down your Vista Ultimate serial number for future reference. Because stickers on a computer tower can sometimes become worn or scraped, you should always keep a copy of your product key.

    Manually Installed Vista Ultimate

  1. 1

Open the DVD case for your Vista Ultimate CD and look for the product key number sticker on an insert inside the case.

  2. 2

Pull the DVD out of the case and look for the sticker under the DVD disk if you could not find the sticker on an insert inside the case.

  3. 3

Write down your Vista Ultimate serial number and place it in a safe location for future reference.

Tips and warnings

  • If you have lost the sticker with the serial number or it has become damaged, the only way you can get a new serial number is by purchasing a new copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.
