How to Disassemble a Shooting Star Wooden Puzzle

Updated March 23, 2017

The wooden shooting star puzzle is made of six carefully carved interlocking wood pieces. It's a unique puzzle in that it serves as a conundrum both in taking it apart and putting it back together. The shooting star also makes a decorative tabletop piece to keep on display. Many puzzle solvers have a difficult time disassembling a new puzzle. This is due to the new puzzle being too stiff to pull apart easily. It just takes a little more effort to disassemble the puzzle that first time.

Examine the wooden star puzzle. When completed, it contains six interlocked wooden pieces that form a 3-dimensional star.

Rap the wooden star lightly against the table to loosen the pieces of the puzzle. This works especially well on tight or stiff puzzles that don't move easily.

Grasp two opposing pieces of the star puzzle and pull with a slight twisting motion. The puzzle should come apart easily. If not, grasp two or three puzzle pieces at once and squeeze together as you pull.

The newer the star puzzle, the more tightly the pieces interlock and the harder it is to pull apart.
