How to soak nails in lemon juice to whiten them

Updated February 21, 2017

Your nails may become yellow if you are a smoker or if you regularly use nail polish. They may also be a result of an underlying medical condition, such as nutritional deficiencies or nail fungus. If this is the case, you should see your doctor for an appropriate course of treatment. However, before you do, you can try whitening your nails with a lemon juice -- a natural home remedy. Soaking your nails in lemon juice may help restore their healthy appearance.

Remove nail polish from your nails if you have any applied. Dip a cotton ball in nail polish remover and apply it to your nails. Wash your hands thoroughly after all the nail polish is gone.

Fill a bowl halfway with water.

Microwave the bowl until the water is warm, not hot. If you happen to microwave it too long, allow it to cool to a temperature that's comfortable to your skin.

Slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the water. Alternatively, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of bottled lemon juice to the bowl.

Dip your nails in the bowl and allow them to soak for five to 10 minutes.

Rinse off your hands and dry them.

Repeat this treatment every day until you are satisfied with the colour of your nails.
