How do I Charge a Garmin Nuvi 200W Without a Car Charger?

Updated March 23, 2017

The standard method of charging the Garmin Nuvi 200W involves plugging the Nuvi into your car's power outlet using a car charger. However, two alternate methods are available. You can either use a USB-charging cable or a wall-outlet charging cable. Neither cable comes standard with the Nuvi 200W; you'll have to order the optional accessory to charge the Nuvi 200W without a car charger. The typical charging process takes about two hours.

Purchase either the Garmin 200W USB-charging cable, or the wall-outlet charging cable. Either accessory is available from the Garmin website (see Resource); they may also be available at retailers that sell Garmin products.

Connect the small end of the USB-charging cable into the square plug on the Garmin Nuvi 200W, if you purchased a USB-charging cable. Connect the other end of the cable into the USB port on your computer. Make sure your computer is turned on.

Connect the wall-outlet charging cable's plug into the small circular connection on the Garmin Nuvi 200W, if you purchased a wall-outlet charging cable. Plug the other end into the wall-power outlet.
