Reloading your Windows Vista operating system on to your Acer laptop may be the last resort in the event that your computer starts to malfunction or your computer is infected with a virus. Reinstalling Vista on your computer will wipe the computer clean and restore its factory defaults. Therefore, before you reload Vista on to your laptop, it is wise to save your files onto an external hard drive for safekeeping.

Back up your files using an external hard drive.
Insert the Windows Vista CD into the CD drive of your Acer Aspire laptop.
Click "Install Now" when prompted and follow the prompts. If you want to get updates about your installation, select "OK" from the "Get Important Updates for Installation" page. However, you will need to have Internet established to check for these updates. Click "Next" from this screen to move to the next page.
On the activation page, enter your 25-character product code that came with your CD.
Read and accept the terms and conditions by clicking "I Accept" from the bottom of the page.
Follow the instructions until you reach the Installation Type page. Select "Custom" and click "Next. Select "Install on hard drive" when prompted by the installation wizard and click "Next."
Wait for the installation wizard to complete the installation, then click "Finish" when prompted. Reinstall your backup files.
Follow Step 1 in the previous section then restart your computer. While it is powering on, press the "ALT and F10" keys.
Press the "Enter" key when the boot screen appears. Wait for Acer eRecovery program to load up.
Follow the prompts from the Acer eRecovery menu to reinstall Vista onto your laptop. Reinstall your backup files once the system is restored.
