How to Connect My Lenovo Thinkpad to a Television With a Cable

Updated February 21, 2017

If you want to connect your Lenovo Thinkpad laptop computer to a television, you'll need to use a VGA cable. This cable is typically used to connect desktop computers to monitors, but can also connect laptop computers to monitors or even television set --as long as the TV includes the appropriate VGA input. LCD and plasma TVs typically have these inputs, while tube television sets typically do not.

Find the VGA input on your television. Typically these secondary video inputs are located on the back of a television's case. This input will be rectangular-shaped and blue in colour. If your television doesn't have a VGA input, you can't connect your Lenovo Thinkpad to the TV.

Plug your VGA cable into the television input.

Plug your VGA cable into the Lenovo Thinkpad's output. Just as with the TV, the output will be rectangular in shape and blue in colour. Your Lenovo Thinkpad is now connected to your television via the VGA cable.
