One flaw in the design of the laptop is venting. The heat that builds up in the machine has to be expelled somewhere. The natural place for the vents are in the bottom of the laptop. Unfortunately, when the laptop is on your lap the vents empty the heat directly onto you. A wall-mounted laptop work station can be custom fashioned to suit your needs and taste to eliminate this problem and allow the laptop to breathe. This will eliminate the discomfort of the heat expulsion while prolonging the life of your laptop by preventing build-up.

- Stud finder
- Tape measure
- 24-inch level
- Board (1 inch by 8 inches by 24 inches - stained or painted to your preference)
- 3 1/2-inch wood screws
- Drill with Philips bit
- Threaded pipe mounting flange
- 1-inch wood screws
- Plywood (36 inches by 24 inches by 5/8 inch)
- 2 pieces of galvanised pipe (1 inch by 24 inches)
- Pipe wrench
- 3 galvanised pipe couplings (1-inch diameter with 90 degree bend)
- 2 pieces of galvanised pipe (1 inch by 3 inches)
- Complete strip of Velcro (3 inches by 9 inches)
Hold your stud finder against the wall and hold down the power button on the side. Rub the finder across the wall slowly until the indicator light comes on. Place a small pencil mark at this spot. Continue moving the stud finder along the wall. Place another pencil mark at the spot where the light goes off. This will show you the sides of a stud in the wall. Continue moving the finder across the wall, find and mark the location of the next stud in the wall.
Place the pull tab of your tape measure against the floor and measure up the wall. Place a pencil mark between your two studs at 36 inches high. Hold your level against the wall with the top of the level resting on your 36-inch mark. Move the sides of the level until the bubble in the level rests between the marks on the plastic tube. Run the point of your pencil across the top of your level.
Place the 24-inch inch board against the wall with the long side of the board resting on the level mark on your wall. Center the board between your two marked wall studs. Run three of the 3 1/3-inch screws through the board and into each stud with the Phillips bit on your drill giving you six anchors for proper supsport.
Use your drill to attach a threaded flange to the centre of the board on the wall with 1-inch wood screws. Attach the second flange to the 36-inch by 24-inch piece of plywood with 1-inch wood screws using the Phillips bit on your drill.
Twist a 24-inch piece of pipe into the flange on the wall. Snug the pipe into the wall flange with the pipe wrench. Be careful not to over tighten the pipe and damage the anchoring of the flange or board mounted on the wall. Twist a 90-degree coupling onto the end of the pipe you just mounted. Snug the coupling onto the pipe with the wrench leaving the open end of the coupling pointing straight down. Twist a 3-inch piece of pipe into the coupling and snug it with the wrench.
Twist a 90-degree coupling onto the 3-inch pipe you just mounted on your wall assembly. Snug the coupling with the wrench leaving the open end of the coupling facing your work station. Twist a 24-inch piece of pipe into the open end of the coupling and snug it with the wrench. Attach a 90-degree coupling and snug it with the open end pointing up. Twist a 3-inch piece of pipe to the open end of the coupling. Twist the flange on your plywood onto the 3-inch pipe. Snug the 3-inch pipe and flange by turning the plywood.
Peel the backing paper off of one side of the piece of Velcro. Stick the adhesive side onto the top of the plywood deck of your wall assembly. Peel the backing strip off of the opposite strip of Velcro and attach the adhesive side to the bottom of your laptop. Pull the laptop to disconnect the Velcro strips when you need to travel with your computer. Push the laptop onto the plywood deck so that the Velcro strips meet when you want to work at your wall-mounted work station.
