How to Install Curtain Poles

Updated February 21, 2017

Curtain poles are round, decorative window accessories used to hang drapes, sheers and scarves and home decorators like using them. With so many pole colours and finial styles to choose from, curtain poles hold appeal to virtually anyone who likes decorating. Whether hanging one set or outfitting all the windows of your home or business, curtain rods make controlling light simple and make your space look cosy.

Choose brackets if none came in the curtain pole packaging. The brackets should be rounded and wide enough to hold the diameter of the poles easily. You need two brackets for each curtain pole.

Make a mark with a pencil on either side of the window. Make the marks about 4 inches up above the window frame. Use a measuring tape to get the most precise measurement.

Drill holes into the marks you made. Use an electric drill to make the holes with screws.

Remove the screws. Place the bracket in position adding the screws. Use the drill to drill the screws into the bracket. Do this for both sides.

Attach the finials to the ends of the curtain pole. Place the curtain pole in the brackets.
