Sinks come in various types that include ones that mount in a countertop or are a pedestal style of sink. A pedestal sink does not have a cabinet or vanity. This means that water pipes and plumbing will need to be hidden. You can install a pedestal sink and hide the pipes by first determining where in your bathroom you want to install it.

  1. 1

Attach the sink to the pedestal and stand it against the wall to mark the location for the mounting bracket with the pencil.

  2. 2

Set the sink and pedestal aside. Set the mounting bracket against the wall and check for level. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall with screws using the power drill.

  3. 3

Detach the sink from the pedestal and set it on the mounting bracket. Adjust the depth of the bracket, if necessary, to fit the sink.

  4. 4

Connect the trap to the drain lines and then attach the water supply lines. Secure the water supply lines to the fittings on the sink with the adjustable wrench.

  5. 5

Measure the distance between the outer edges of the water supply valves. Compare this to the width of the pedestal. The pedestal will need to be wider than the distance between the water supply valves to hide the plumbing.

  6. 6

Set the pedestal in place under the sink. Attach it to the floor with screws using the power drill. Drill holes into the wall at the corners of the sink. Insert screws into the holes and tighten them with the power drill to secure the sink basin to the wall.

  7. 7

Examine the front and sides of the pedestal. Verify that the water supply lines are not showing behind the pedestal. Position the water supply lines behind the pedestal and secure them with a zip tie if they are too loose.

Tips and warnings

  • If the water supply line valves are too far apart they will not be hidden by the pedestal.
