How to Reset My Bicycle Speedometer

Updated February 21, 2017

A bicycle speedometer can keep track of how far you have travelled. Having a speedometer can prepare you for an upcoming event or just help keep track of how much exercise you have done. You may want to reset your speedometer if you are monitoring your daily progress or if you begin a new workout.

Turn the speedometer over and locate the reset button. This button is very small and usually is hollow.

Open a safety pin and stick the tip of the pin in the small hole on the back of the speedometer.

Count to 10 while holding the pin in place. This should reset the speedometer to the same way it was when you first turned it on.

Remove the battery cover from the back of the speedometer. You will need a small flat-blade screwdriver to unscrew the screws holding the cover in place.

Turn the speedometer over and shake it until the battery falls out. Leave the battery out for 15 seconds to reset the unit.

Sometimes the reset button is located inside the battery cover. Using a small, flat-blade screwdriver, you will have to remove the screws holding the battery cover in place. The reset button may be red in colour. Press and hold the button for at least 10 seconds.
