Instructions

  1. 1

Inflate one long balloon leaving about 1/2 an inch of the balloon uninflated. This uninflated section provides an escape for the air as you make the balloon twists. Tie the balloon closed with a knot.

  2. 2

Make a 1-inch bubble from the balloon by making a twist 1 inch away from the balloon knot. Twist the balloon several times to hold the bubble in place.

  3. 3

Measure the person's head by placing the balloon around their head like a crown. Mark the size of the necessary circle by placing your hand on the spot where the balloon meets around the person's head. Make a twist in the balloon at this mark. Twist the balloon several times to keep the twist in the balloon.

  4. 4

Divide the head measurement in half. Make a twist in the balloon at the halfway point. Twist the balloon clockwise several times to hold the twist.

  5. 5

Take the first balloon twist that marks the head measurement, and twist it into the rest of the balloon to make a circle. You should now have a balloon circle with a twist in the middle.

  6. 6

Make a 1-inch bubble at the very end of the remaining loose end of the balloon. Bring the bubble across the top of the circle and twist it into the other side of the circle. This will produce a balloon circle with one loop over the top of the crown. Two small bubbles will descend under each half of the balloon circle.

  7. 7

Blow up additional balloons to twist into the basic hat shape. You can add whatever combination you or the person who will wear the hat desires.

Tips and warnings

  • Smaller, round balloons twisted into the long balloons by the knotted end of the small balloon add interest and fun to any balloon hat.
