How to Adjust the Headlights on a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Updated March 23, 2017

The headlights on a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse can be adjusted using two adjustment screws on the headlight housing assembly. Normally, you only need to do this if you have replaced your headlights and your new headlights do not come pre-adjusted from the manufacturer. The screw on the top, located toward the back of the housing, will adjust the headlights vertically. The screw on the inside edge of the housing will adjust the headlights left and right.

Park the Mitsubishi Eclipse 25 feet away from a closed garage door with the car facing the door.

Turn on the headlights.

Open the bonnet and turn the vertical adjustment screw on the top of the headlight housing clockwise to move the headlights up or counterclockwise to move the headlights down. Adjust the headlight until the centre of the headlight beam is positioned at the bottom of the door, where the door meets the ground.

Turn the adjustment screw on the inside edge of each headlight housing until the headlight beams overlap by 50 per cent.
