Cellulite is fat that has a dimpled appearance found on the butt and thighs in most women. Some say it looks like cottage cheese or an orange peel. Cellulite is not a medical condition, but many women find it unattractive. Women often struggle with self-image issues and avoid wearing certain clothing in order to cover cellulite. There are many products available that advertise the reduction or elimination of cellulite, but some of these simply do not work. The most effective way to get rid of cellulite is through a steady exercise program.

    Perform lying leg lifts, an exercise for toning the thighs, three days a week. Make sure to do one set of 10 to 15 repetitions on each leg. To increase the resistance, wear ankle weights. For detailed information on how to perform toning exercises, see the Resource section.

    Do squats and lunges to help tighten and tone the butt muscles. Start with one set of 15 three days a week. Gradually increase to three sets of 15 as you get stronger. Ankle weights can also be worn for a more challenging workout.

    Walk for 30 minutes a day at least three days a week. Cardiovascular exercise is important to help burn fat and increase the heart rate. As you build more muscle, you will burn more fat and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
