In the Muslim world, women are often required to cover their hair. There are many different ways to wear head scarves, with different countries favouring certain styles. Turkish women have a unique and lovely way to cover their hair with colourful, bold silk scarves draped modestly around their heads.
- Skill level:
- Moderately Easy
Things you need
- Rubber band or ponytail holder
- Cotton bonnet cap
- Colourful, shiny square scarf
- Hijab pins or safety pins
Pull your hair into a tight ponytail at the top of your head. Secure it with a rubber band or ponytail holder. For more volume, wrap your hair into a bun at the top of your head.
Cover your the hair securely with a cotton bonnet cap with back ties.
Fold the scarf into an unequal triangle, so that there's more scarf dangling in the back. For true Turkish style, be sure the scarf is colourful and shiny.
Center the scarf on top of your head and tuck the front under just at the chin-line on each side. Pin the scarf under your chin with a hajib pin or a safety pin.
Pin the scarf discreetly to the top of your head through the bonnet cap for more security.
Tuck one side of the scarf around your neck then sweep the other side of the scarf below your neck and toward your opposite shoulder. Pin it in place at the shoulder with a pretty broach.
