How to Take Knobs Off a Hotpoint Stove

Hotpoint appliances are manufactured by General Electric. Each Hotpoint stove has several burner knobs that operate the individual burners. The knobs are constructed of heavy plastic, and slide on and off of the infinite switches that control the burners. If the infinite switch malfunctions, you must replace it to resume using the burner. Because the screws securing the switch to the range's control panel are located behind the burner knob, you must remove the knob to remove the infinite switch.

Turn the burner knob to the "Off" position.

Pull straight back on the burner knob until it comes off of the burner post.

Insert a piece of string or wire between the burner knob and control panel if the knob does easily pull off.

Grasp both ends of the string or wire and pry the burner knob off the stove.
