How to Set Up a Sony TV

Updated February 21, 2017

If you have just purchased a new Sony television, you need to know how to set it up properly. This includes assembly and connecting outside devices such as Blu-ray players and gaming systems. Although most locations that sell Sony televisions offer home installation (often for a fee), you can perform the same actions by yourself in only a few minutes without the aid of a technician.

Remove the Sony TV from the box and put it off to the side, leaving it sitting on its side (do not position it screen down).

Slide the base of the TV into the bottom slot of the Sony television. This base holds the TV up (flatscreens can't stand on their own).

Attach the screws into the four small screw holes along the back of the Sony television. Once it's connected, you can position the TV on the TV stand or entertainment centre.

Plug the cables running from your DVD, Blu-ray and gaming devices into the rear of the Sony TV. If using RCA cables from the devices, plug the cables into the "Video In" ports. If using component cables, connect them into the "Component In" ports, and if using an HDMI cable, connect it into the HDMI port.
