Mini DV is a very popular videotape format that is compact, high quality and compatible with a full range of devices. If you have a Mini DV camcorder with footage that was shot on it, you may want to transfer that footage to your computer or another format. It is not difficult to transfer video and audio from a Mini DV videotape onto a DVD when you are using the right tools.

Download the Movie Maker video editing software program (Windows Version 7). Go to the "Windows Live" website and click on "Download Now." Click "Run." Check "Movie Maker" next to the boxes of the programs you want to install. Click "Next." Check the boxes if you want Bing as your default search provider and MSN as your browser home page. Uncheck them if you don't want them. Click "Next" to install Movie Maker.

Open Movie Maker. Click the "Start" menu on the lower left of the screen and click "All Programs." Click on "Movie Maker" to open the software.

Connect your camcorder to your PC by plugging one end of the FireWire cable into the "Video Out" jack on your camcorder and the other end into the FireWire port on your PC.

Insert a blank writable DVD into your computers DVD burner.

Using the Windows Live version of Movie Maker, click the blue square at the upper left of your screen. Click "Import from device." Choose "DV," and click "Import." Type a name for the video file you want to import. Click "Burn the entire video to DVD." Type a DVD menu title in the box provided. Click "Next." The tape will rewind to the beginning and begin to be captured onto Movie Maker. A box will appear saying "Creating DVD, please wait." When the progress bar reaches 100 per cent, your DVD will be created.
