Lotus Word Pro and Microsoft Word are similar programs in some ways. They are both word-processing programs that allows you to create and format documents. Since both programs have their own special programming, file types and added formatting, it is not possible to use them interchangeably with all your document files. There are two ways, however, to convert a Lotus Word file to a Microsoft Word file so that it can be opened in the latter program.
Open the document in Lotus Word Pro that you will like to convert to a Word document.
Click "File," then "Save As" from the toolbar.
Choose "Rich Text Format (RTF)" from the "List Files Of Type" list box. Click "Save" to save the document in the RTF format, which can be opened by different versions of Word.
Open up the Lotus file you want to convert.
Click on "File" and then "Import/Export." Make sure that the option to "Export the document into another file format" is selected.
Select "Rich Text Format (RTF)" as the file type in the "Export to what file format" list from the "Import/Export" dialogue box.
Click "Export" and the file will be converted to a rich-text format document, which you can open in different versions of Microsoft Word.
