By some estimates, the web consists of nearly 200 million websites, with more than 1 trillion unique URLs and more created every minute. But while measuring the entire web can be frustratingly inexact, a handful of websites are in the business of ranking and categorising the highest-trafficked sites out there. Instructions

  1. 1

Open your browser and navigate to Alexa.com.

  2. 2

Click on the "Top Sites" tab at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a ranked list of the top 500 websites in the world.

  3. 3

Click on the "By Country" tab to see high-traffic websites by country, or click the "By Category" tab to choose a specific category of high-traffic websites.

  4. 4

Look up a specific site by going back to the Alexa.com home page and typing the site's name in the box above "Lookup Sites." You'll be shown the site's overall ranking and a graph of its recent traffic, along with many other statistics.

  5. 5

Navigate to QuantCast.com and click on "Top Million Sites" for a second opinion. QuantCast offers many of the same features as Alexa but also includes demographic information for each site.
