By some estimates, the web consists of nearly 200 million websites, with more than 1 trillion unique URLs and more created every minute. But while measuring the entire web can be frustratingly inexact, a handful of websites are in the business of ranking and categorising the highest-trafficked sites out there. You just have to know where to look.

Open your browser and navigate to Alexa.com.
Click on the "Top Sites" tab at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a ranked list of the top 500 websites in the world.
Click on the "By Country" tab to see high-traffic websites by country, or click the "By Category" tab to choose a specific category of high-traffic websites.
Look up a specific site by going back to the Alexa.com home page and typing the site's name in the box above "Lookup Sites." You'll be shown the site's overall ranking and a graph of its recent traffic, along with many other statistics.
Navigate to QuantCast.com and click on "Top Million Sites" for a second opinion. QuantCast offers many of the same features as Alexa but also includes demographic information for each site.
