In today's economy, people are more hesitant to give up their cash for products and services. It is important to scope out a company prior to having services rendered or making a considerably large purchase. Spending your hard-earned cash on a product or service that doesn't deliver leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Luckily, it's fairly easy to find complaints against companies to possibly avoid a negative experience.

Look into two resources that aid consumers when researching and comparison shopping: the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and Ripoff Report (www.ripoffreport.com). According to Ripoff, they are "a worldwide consumer reporting website and publication, by consumers, for consumers, to file and document complaints about companies or individuals. ALL complaints remain public and unedited in order to create a working history on the company or individual in question." The Better Business Bureau also allows you to search for complaints on companies or charities and file a complaint on a specific organisation.
Access the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website. Choose the link titled "Check out a business or charity." Enter as much information as possible, for example the telephone number, business or charity name, address, URL (website address), and/or e-mail. If you wish, click the box to only display BBB-accredited businesses. When you find the business, click the link given that displays the business and scroll down the page until you see customer complaint history. You can view the number of complaints and the categories the complaints are filed under. The specifics and details are not posted; however, you are able to view the number of complaints filed within a certain period of time.
Enter the name of the company, individual, or report number into the search box provided on the Ripoff Report website. Perform an advanced search or browse through the most recent reports to find the latest complaints filed for that particular company. On Ripoff, you can read a consumer's entire explanation, including the details of what occurred and why the complaint was filed. You can make a sound decision about a company after reading others' experiences.
