The material in Tempur-Pedic mattresses was developed by Swedish scientists who were researching a material initially developed by NASA. According to the manufacturer, Tempur-Pedic mattresses provide better support and body alignment than traditional mattresses by conforming to your body over time. Cleaning your Tempur-Pedic is a little tricky, because you cannot use liquid cleaning products on the mattress. Some Tempur-Pedic mattresses feature a removable cover, which is the easiest way to clean this type of mattress.

Instructions

  1. 1

Examine the tag on your Tempur-Pedic mattress. Some Tempur-Pedic mattresses have removable covers that are washable, as indicated on the tag. If your tag is missing or if you can't determine if your cover is removable, call Tempur-Pedic customer service at (800) 821-6621.

  2. 2

Remove the cover if it is washable and place it in the washing machine on a cold water setting. Use a detergent specifically designed for use with cold water. Do not use bleach or stain remover products.

  3. 3

Remove the cover from the washing machine and let it air-dry for at least one day, or until it is completely dry. If you must put it in the dryer, set your machine on a cool setting.

  4. 4

Replace the cover on your Tempur-Pedic mattress when it is dry.

  5. 5

Vacuum your Tempur-pedic mattress at least once a month if the cover is not removable. Set the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner and run the hose nozzle completely over your mattress to remove dust and dirt.

  6. 6

Deal with a stain immediately if you spill any sort of liquid on your Tempur-Pedic mattress. Grab dry paper towels and push them lightly onto the stain to soak up the liquid. Repeat with additional dry towels until you have removed as much of the liquid as possible.

  7. 7

Sprinkle household baking soda over the stain and let it sit for two or three minutes. Use enough baking soda to lightly cover the stain. A small amount will do.

  8. 8

Vacuum the baking soda off your mattress using the hose attachment on your vacuum. Allow the mattress to dry completely before you replace your sheets.

  9. 9

Purchase a mattress cover to protect your Tempur-Pedic from future stains or spills. The manufacturer discourages owners from using traditional mattress pads and instead recommends using the Tempur-Pedic Mattress Protector.

Tips and warnings

  • You may notice a chemical odour on your mattress when it is first delivered. This is normal and will fade after three or four days.
  • Never use water or other liquid cleaning products to clean your Tempur-Pedic mattress. The manufacturer maintains that liquid can damage the material and create an environment for bacteria or mould.
