How to install a dartboard

Updated February 21, 2017

Darts is a very fun game to play alone or with friends. Plus, it takes up very little room and is inexpensive. All you need is a good, solid dartboard and some darts and you are ready play. Many people will hang dartboards in their garages, offices, dens, or anywhere that is convenient. They sometimes hang these on walls and on backs of doors. Here are some tips to install your dartboard.

Figure out where you want to install your dartboard. You can choose a wall or the back of the door. You can even buy a special dartboard cabinet and install it in it. The main rule of thumb in choosing your spot is to make sure you have no breakables near and that you have enough playing room.

Once you have picked your ideal spot, it is time to start measuring. You need to measure the distance from the floor to about the centre of where the dart board will hang. The ideal measurement is 5 feet, 8 inches up the wall from the floor. This measurement is ideal, for all players, including tall ones. If you go any higher, you would actually be throwing the darts in the air, instead of at the dartboard.

Mark your measurement with a pencil. Place an X on the wall. This should be the position of the top screw. Hold the dartboard up against the wall and carefully screw through the hole into the wall and on into the mark you made.

Now look and see where the other screws go. Most dartboards will have one on the bottom left and right of the dart board. Install these now. Step back and see if the board looks straight. Adjust if needed.

Take a practice shot and see if the dartboard stays put and does not sway or vibrate. Enjoy your new dartboard!

Some dartboards come with a backing that you are to use to install the screws. If yours does, follow the instructions that comes with the board for installing.
