Many children love quiz games but their natural enthusiasm means that they tend to shout out the answers to questions over the top of each other. The quiz can quickly descend into a game of "who-can-shout-loudest." You can introduce a semblance of order to the proceedings by giving a simple electronic buzzer to each child, coupled with strict instructions to buzz when they know the answer. It's actually quite simple to make a buzzer with just a few components.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

Things you need

  • Wire-ended piezo buzzer
  • 9-volt switched battery box
  • 9-volt battery
  • Electrical tape

  1. 1

Twist the bare part of red wire that comes from the switched battery box on to the bare part of the red wire attached to the piezo buzzer. Repeat the process with the black wires then cover all exposed wire with electrical tape.

  2. 2

Check that the switch is in the "Off" position then insert the 9-volt battery. Make sure the battery's plus and minus terminals match up with the corrresponding terminals in the switch box.

  3. 3

Turn the switch on the box to "On" and the buzzer will sound.
