Flash 8 Fire Tutorial
Fire orbs and some ActionScript are used to create fire effects in Flash 8. (fire and flames image by siloto from Fotolia.com)

You can create fire tutorials in Flash 8 by generating copies of a candle flame movie clip over and over again to create the impression of a realistic flame. You may use the same procedure to create smoke and rain effects.

Fire Orb

You can create the fire effect movie clip by first designing the fire orb either in Photoshop or in Flash 8 using the drawing tools. You then convert it into a movie clip inside Flash 8, where you further modify it to create the effect of a fading flame.

The first ActionScript is placed inside the fire orb, where it used to stop the repetitive fading of the flame using the command "Stop();".

The following ActionScript code is also added to generate multiple copies of the fire effect:

duplicateMovieClip (orb,c,c);

set Property(orb,_rotation, random(5));

if (b>20) {

gotoAndPlay (1);

Frame Rate

The frame rate will determine how realistic the fire effect is and how fast it burns. When adjusting the frame rate, remember also to adjust the amount of frames in the movie clip to get the desired effect.
