The Shimano Nexus 7 Speed Hub is designed for road-style bikes used for commuting and running errands. Silver and black in colour, this hub is ideal for riders who live near hills and want a wider range of gear choices.

Gears and Shifting

For the Nexus Inter-7, shifting of gears is not directly related to pedalling. Gear levers can be made at anytime while pedalling, standing still or even coasting. The hub has seven usable gears for a range of 244 per cent. If used with the recommended 20T rear cog, the Nexus Inter-7 has an equivalent gear range to a 13-32 tooth freewheel.

Braking Systems

These internal gear systems can be used with two types of back brakes: coaster and the Shimano-recommended "Rollerbrake." Both brakes work in varied weather conditions. They both require little maintenance. A Nexus-specific front brake is compatible, although a cantilever brake also will work.

Other Details

The Nexus 7 speed is a 36-spoke drilled hub with 132mm of spacing. The overall weight of the hub is 1,465 grams. The derailleur is not exposed, making damage to the bike part exceedingly rare.
