Ketoconazole cream is used for treating infections caused by a fungal infection or a yeast infection. It actually works by killing the fungus or yeast. This cream also can work by preventing the fungus or the yeast from growing. Ketoconazole cream is a wonder cream of sorts, and it is used to treat many kinds of infections on the human body, over the course of several weeks time.

Versatile Cream

This versatile cream is used to treat athlete's foot, also called tinea pedis. It is also used to treat ringworm of the groin, that is called jock itch, or tinea crunis. Senorrheic dermatitis, sun fungus, diaper rash and yeast infection of the skin all can be treated with ketoconazole as well.

Athlete's Foot

One of the many infections that ketoconazole cream can cure is athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis. Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that develops in moist areas of the foot such as between the toes, which causes itching, stinging and burning.

Ringworm of the body, also known as tinea corporis, has no chance against ketoconazole cream. Ringworm develops in the layers of the skin, and it takes on a circular, ring-like appearance. It is quite often itchy, red and rash-like. When ketoconazole cream is applied according to the doctor's directions, this fungal infection is all but cured.

Sun Fungus

Sun fungus or pityriasis versicolor is a very common fungal infection that ketoconazole cream can clear up in a matter of weeks. Sun fungus interferes with the normal pigmentation of the skin, leaving behind small discoloured patches. This kind of infection is very persistent when the weather heats up and becomes humid.

Seborrheic Dermatitiis

Seborrheic dermatitis is also known as cradle cap when it affects babies. Dermatitis will often strike the head area, but may also affect the face and the chest. Ketoconazole cream works magic on this nasty scalp infection that makes a person's head itchy, dry and scaly.

Diaper Rash

Ketoconazole cream can help wipe out diaper rash. Diaper rash is marked by red, puffy and tender skin in the diaper area. The thighs and genitals can be affected as well. The baby will probably be very unhappy and uncomfortable until the ketoconazole cream begins to reduce the puffiness and redness.

Not for Every Infection

Ketoconazole cream is only available with a prescription. Although this cream is versatile and works wonders with providing periodic relief for a person who has a fungal or yeast infection, this cream is not to be used for other infections such as thrush or vaginal infections.
