How to Get a USB to Work on an LG TV

Updated February 21, 2017

LG TVs have two USB ports on the back of the television you can use to connect an external USB drive. Once connected, you can view videos or pictures or listen to music stored on the USB drive. You can access the contents of the USB drive through the television's menu system, and, like when connecting a USB drive to a computer, you have to learn how to safely disconnect the drive from your television so that you don't lose any information.

  3. Push the navigation buttons to highlight "Smart Share" and then press "Enter" to open the "Smart Share" menu.

  4. Select the "USB 1 External" or "USB 2 External," depending on which port you used, and then select "All Media," "Movie List," "Photo List" or "Music List."

  5. Highlight the file you want to open on your television and press "Enter."

  6. Press "Q.Menu" on the remote control when you are finished using the USB device.
