Updated April 17, 2017

Personal Protective Equipment such as surgical masks and gloves can get old or soiled and sometimes it is hard to find a good way to get rid of them. 1. Put on medical gloves and place your PPE in a plastic garbage bag.

  2. Tightly tie and secure the garbage bag to prevent dripping. If dripping occurs and garbage touches your skin or clothes, wash them thoroughly. Put PPE in your workplace's receptacles. It may be labelled for biohazardous waste.

  3. Clean waste containers regularly. Your workplace may require you to clean receptacles daily depending on their policies. Wash them with diluted bleach (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after handling.
