How to Convert a Shed to a Greenhouse
Turning an old shed into a greenhouse is an effective way to repurpose a building and create a functional structure that can provide your family with fresh vegetables and herbs throughout the year.
Creating an effective greenhouse from a shed requires a good understanding of the light and heat requirements of a greenhouse, as well as the work it takes to build and maintain the plants inside it. Converting a shed into a greenhouse is a major home project that can bring benefits for many years.

Measure the length and height of the shed on its southern, eastern and western sides. Multiply the length of each wall by the height of the same wall to determine how much greenhouse glazing will be required to cover it.
Remove the walls on the south, east and west portions of the greenhouse, or hire a contracted builder to remove them. Ensure that the main supports for the shed stay in place so that the building is structurally secure.
Install the greenhouse glazing along the south, east and west walls of the shed. Attach the glazing according to the manufacturer instructions. Cover all of the seals on the glazing with caulk to ensure that the seals remain tight; this will prevent heat from escaping.
Check the seals along the north wall of the building and the greenhouse roof to ensure that they are tight and will prevent heat from escaping. Reseal any missing or loose seals.

Add greenhouse insulation along the interior portion of the north wall to reflect more light into the greenhouse and increase its temperature. This is especially effective in winter.
Add a heating system to the greenhouse to increase the temperature at night and during colder seasons. A portable space heater can be an effective heating system for smaller greenhouses.
