How to Remove the Headlights on a Ford Transit Connect

Updated February 21, 2017

Although your Turkish-built Ford Transit Connect may lack good looks, it does offer plenty of room--135 cubic feet of space, which you can use for camping, fill with seating or stuff with supplies when you use it commercially. You also save fuel with 22 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city with 25mpg on the highway. Some maintenance for your Transit Connect, such as removing the headlights, won't take up much of your time.

  1. Turn the headlamp control to the "Off" position.

  2. Switch off the interior lamps.

  3. Open the bonnet of your Ford Transit Connect by lifting the bonnet badge and turning the badge back. Insert your key and turn it left, which releases the first latch. Turn the key right, which releases the second latch, and lift the bonnet, supporting it with the prop rod. Remove the key to prevent key damage or loss.

  4. Pull off the headlight bulb cap by rotating it counterclockwise.

  5. Unplug the electrical connector from the headlight bulb.

  6. Turn the bulb retainer ring counterclockwise until you remove it and then pull out the headlight bulb. Place the bulb in a safe location for your new headlight assembly. Never touch the glass of the halogen headlight bulb. The oils from your skin can break the bulb glass when it heats up. Always handle the halogen bulb by the plastic base.

  7. Pry the headlight assembly out of your Ford Transit Connect using a flathead screwdriver.

  8. Warning

Make certain you use headlight bulbs marked with "D.O.T." for North America, meaning the bulbs conform to Federal motor vehicle safety standards. These bulbs will keep the headlight assembly working properly and maintain your headlight assembly warranty.
