How to Make a Pirate Hat

Kids of all ages love pirates. When looking for a swashbuckling fun craft to do with your kids, get out some old newspapers. Let everyone design a pirate hat. Make swords out of foil and cardboard. Give out eye patches to complete the look. Have a pirate movie family night. Put out bags of chocolate gold coins and jugs of apple cider. Watch a pirate movie like "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "Shipwrecked."

  1. Lay out a piece of newspaper on your work surface with long ends facing the sides.

  2. Fold the paper in half by bringing the top of the paper down to meet the bottom.

  3. Fold the top left corner down to the middle of the paper. Crease the paper

  4. Fold the top right corner down to the middle of the paper. Crease.

  5. Fold up the bottom top piece of paper and crease.

  6. Turn the hat over and fold up the bottom piece of paper. Crease.

  7. Tip

    You can use any kind of paper. Draw a pirate symbol on the front if desired.
