If your lamp cord is damaged this doesn't mean you have to run out and buy a whole new lamp. Replace a lamp cord with help from a home contractor in this free video clip.
Hello, my name is David Geeting from By the Book Construction in Camarillo, California, and today I'm going to show you the proper process to replace a lamp cord. The only tools that you're going to need for this project are a screwdriver and maybe a roll of electrical tape. On this particular lamp we need to replace the lamp cord, say perhaps your dog has chewed through it or it's gotten damaged in some way or another and it needs replacement, this is how we're going to do it. We take the lamp socket off, disconnect the switch from the cord wit a screwdriver, both sides. Now the lamp cord can be pulled out a little bit. So, we're going to undo that knot. We're going to lay our lamp down and we're going to pull the old cord out, install the new cord, simply go from the bottom. We're going to feed our new cord all the way through all the way to the end and then push it a little bit. Now that we've got the lamp cord pushed all the way through, you can spread these out a little bit and you want to tie just a single knot in it, not really a knot but just enough to keep it from being pulled back out if somebody were to trip over the cord or something like that, it won't pull it loose from the connections that we're going to make to our socket. We're ready to reattach our socket, tighten this down with the motion of the screw and not back it out, same on the other side. Put our switch cover back on and push our socket back together. Now when we put our lamp in and test this. I've already plugged it in. We've successfully completed a lamp cord replacement.
