Hi, I'm Gretchen Rivas with Relax! Massage Therapy in Wilmington, North Carolina and today, we're going to talk about Shiatsu massage. What you need for this is just a table and some space. Shiatsu is basically an ancient Japanese method of giving massage and then what you're doing with that is you're working along the channels of the energy lines that run through the body. And one of the main channels that run through the body is the bladder channel which runs down the back. And when you're doing massage, Shiatsu, what you want to do is you want to do a, a push, push and then a thumb. So, what you're doing is kind of an inner pressing in and then more specific work along the channel. So, whenever you're doing massage in Shiatsu, you want to have a little bit of background and knowledge about which channels run how and where on the body because you don't just want to use them arbitrarily. But, you want to do a little press, press and then thumb; press, press and some thumb and press, press, thumb. Now, I'm using the back of my hands here. You can use your palms; you can do a palm, palm, thumb, thumb, palm, thumb. But, you want to be working along the energetic channels of the body, then go all the way down across the gluts, down the legs, all the way down to the feet. So, you can do the same pressure, in your palm, palm, thumb, thumb all the way down the leg if you choose to and you can also do that on the interior portion of the body also. And that's how you do a Shiatsu massage.
