"Hi, I'm Doctor Larry Klein. I'm a dentist here in Saint St. Petersburg, Florida. Today we're going to talk a little about the different types of specialties in dentistry. In general, there is a general dentist . He's a dentist that goes to college and then goes to dental school for four years and is trained in all aspects of dentistry. There are times though that we definitely need specialist and utilize them all the time. They provide a tremendous service. The different types of specialties in dentistry include Endodontics who work on root canals, Periodontics who work on specifically on gums, Pediatrics dealing with children and young adults, Prosthodontics people that deal with more complex dentures and partials. You've got oral surgeons of course who are responsible for maxillofacial surgeries and difficult abstractions and those are basically the specialties involved. Becoming one of those specialist, you definitely have to take some more training and the training goes anywhere from two to four years depending on that specialty.
