DVDs are inventive ways to record personal videos or build a collection of motion pictures in the comfort of your own home. Sending DVDs to friends and loved ones is a way for them to share in the joy and excitement of a movie's contents. Whether mailing DVDs as a birthday gift, a house warming present or for professional reasons, mastering the task of finding cheap ways to ship will ensure your package arrives without breaking the bank.

  1. 1

Reduce the size and weight of shipping by replacing bulky DVD cases and slipping each disk into its own paper sleeve. Eliminate dust from disks and protect them from scratches by securing each one into a paper -- or plastic -- sleeve. Sleeves are thin and insubstantial coverings for DVD disks. Individually priced, DVD sleeves run for three or four cents apiece.

  2. 2

Select a 6- by 10-inch insulated mailing envelope. Choose an envelope with at least 3/16-inch bubble wrapping secured to both walls on the inside of the envelope. Purchase the envelope from any local office supply store for as little as one dollar. Place DVDs inside and secure it closed. Write the mailing address and return address onto the envelope as necessary.

  3. 3

Ask a post office representative to weigh the envelope. Ship the DVDs using standard mail if the envelope weighs less than 454gr. Allow five days to two weeks for your shipment to arrive at its destination. Avoid using express or certified mail as these options -- and others like them -- increase the cost of shipping.
