Baptist Youth Pastor Jobs
Baptist youth pastors may need to work outside the church. (baptist church image by Tracy Martinez from

Baptist youth pastors wear more than one career hat unless they are working at a large church. Churches try to meet different ministry needs with as few paid workers as possible to save resources for outreach ministries, which can often leave a youth pastor feeling overwhelmed and underpaid. The plus side of employment as a youth pastor is the significant impact you will make on the lives of young people.

Youth Director

Your job as a youth director will involve choosing the curriculum for the youth, planning the number of classes your youth program requires and finding teachers for the classes. Additionally, you will plan youth outings and activities, designing them to attract the youth in your community. You will need to call on the congregation for volunteers to assist you with your duties as youth director.

Sunday Schoolteacher

You may have the job of being a Sunday schoolteacher as a Baptist youth pastor. Select an age group that you are comfortable with and curriculum that interests you and you feel the children will enjoy. According to Jersey Baptist Church, Sunday school teachers should "develop personal relationships with your pupils; learn their needs and address those needs in your teaching." Often a Sunday schoolteacher will have more personal interaction with students than the church's primary pastor, so your witness to the children will have a lifelong effect.

Baptist Student Union Pastor

College Baptist Student Unions are organisations on college campuses that promote fellowship and Christian living for Baptist students. BSU pastors organise retreats, Bible studies and mission trips for organisation students. They are available to students to discuss theology issues and to counsel students about any personal issues they may be having. As a BSU pastor, you will be the Baptist spiritual adviser to the entire campus, not just the members of the student union.

Income Potential

According to PayScale, youth pastors average between £16,149 and £26,561 per year. These pay estimates depend on your duties for your employer, whether you are full- or part-time and your experience level.
