When you have decided to get a tattoo, get one that has meaning and is something that you will enjoy for the rest of your life. Stars can be used for half sleeve tattoos in a variety of ways, including variations on colours, sizes and placement. Utilising your natural features will enhance your experience and make the tattoo unique.

Stars come in a variety of shapes, colours and styles. Fill in the middle of your stars with solid colours or trace the outline of each star in different colours. Shade the sides of your stars to make it look like the light is shining off of them in one direction. Add clouds, smoke or steam to enhance the background of the stars on your half sleeve tattoo and make them stand out.

Design your half sleeve tattoo with a single layer of small, medium or large stars. Mix and match your stars alternating between small, medium or large stars of various sizes. If you find a pattern you like, try to enlarge or decrease the size so that you can find a size that fits with the tattoo's placement and your personality. Starting small and adding on to the tattoo is easier than going big and removing it because you do not like it.

Types of Stars

Design your tattoo utilising different types of stars keeping any natural features, such as scars or marks, in mind to enhance or define the design. Use anything from a Star of David, nautical stars, zodiac symbols, tribal stars or a good old five- or six-point star tattoo. Use the stars in a Southern Cross, the Big or Little Dippers or Orion configuration on a plain or coloured background. Shooting stars or comets can brighten up your tattoo and make a nice background for your star designs.

Design your tattoo completely and then play with the placement on your arm to determine where you like the tattoo best. Half sleeves usually start at the shoulder and end at the elbow, but could also begin at the elbow and end at the wrist. Outline the tattoo with ink pen on a piece of paper. Smear baby oil or body lotion on the skin where you think you would like to place your tattoo. Place the paper ink side down on the wet skin and peel off carefully.
