Baileys Irish cream is a blend of Irish whiskey, cream, cocoa and sugar. Since it is 50 per cent fresh cream it blends well with coffee and hot chocolate. Some people incorporate this liquor into desserts and some people prefer to sip a small snifter of the Irish cream while enjoying an after-dinner treat.
Baileys Irish cream is often added to compliment an after-dinner coffee or cocoa. When making an Irish coffee, add the desired amount of Baileys, usually 21.3gr, along with 1 to 2 tsp of sugar and a generous scoop of freshly whipped cream. For the guest that does not enjoy coffee, add the same ingredients to a steaming cup of cocoa to ward off the winter chills.
Baileys offers a recipe for its Irish cream for summer parties, called the "Baileys Scoop." Add vanilla ice cream to a small bowl and cover with 85.1 to 113gr of Baileys Irish cream. Individualise your scoop more by adding different toppings, like chocolate chips, chopped peanuts or sprinkles. Turn it into a true sundae by adding a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry.
Add some decadence to a dessert by adding Baileys Irish cream to the recipe. Cooks.com features a cheesecake that incorporates 1/2 cup of the Irish whiskey into the recipe. Much of the alcohol will "cook out" of the cheesecake when you bake it, however the rich Baileys flavour remains. After the cheesecake cools, add some chocolate curls and whipped cream to the dessert for a rich flavour.
Cookies and Treats
Other recipes that utilise the drink are chocolate chip cookies, truffles and chocolate cream cakes. Generally, when you add the Irish cream, it is not a substitute for a different ingredient, it is merely an additional ingredient that lends the whiskey-cream flavour to the recipe. Add a few drops of green food colouring to your cookies or truffles for a St. Patrick's Day party. Lightly tinting your recipe celebrates the luck of the Irish with the colour green.
Baileys is an alcoholic drink that contains 17 per cent alcohol by volume. This translates to the whiskey being 34 proof. Only serve the dessert drinks to adults 21 and older. Drink responsibly and avoid driving after drinking. After each 28.4gr serving of alcohol, drink an eight-ounce glass of water to prevent alcohol dehydration.
