An inventory warehouse manager is responsible for operating and controlling a company's given inventory warehouse. This includes managing the employees working in the warehouse, organising products or items stored in the warehouse, handling all import and export traffic in the warehouse and controlling the financial aspects of managing the inventory warehouse. An inventory warehouse management interview candidate must show the employer that he knows how to operate an inventory and manage employees.

Role of Inventory Warehouse Manager

The employer may ask the applicant to define the role and responsibilities of an inventory warehouse manager to get an understanding of what the applicant knows and has experience with. The answer must include planning the warehouse for inventory items, creating a direction for organisation and operations in the warehouse and utilising the employees working in the warehouse to maximise operations, traffic and profits.

Inventory and Warehouse Safety

The safety of employees working in the warehouse is often top priority for the employer. Safety questions during the warehouse management interview may include how well safety procedures are followed and implemented in the warehouse and how accidents are prevented on a daily basis. Although the safety procedures are written by the company's human resources department, it is the manager's responsibility that they are followed.

Inventory Control Procedures

Another question the employer may ask the applicant is about inventory control procedures, since an inventory is one of a company's valuable assets. Controlling methods in a given inventory depends on the size, traffic and items stored in the inventory warehouse. For instance, frequent traffic inventories are controlled differently than inventories with items that have expiration dates. The employer wants to know that the manager knows how to manage and control the inventory items to minimise waste.

Purchase and Shipping

Part of the inventory warehouse manager's position is to control all incoming and outgoing traffic in the inventory. The employer will ask the applicant about his experience tracking all purchases made by the company and handling the paperwork when the products arrive to the warehouse. Organization and item distribution is also another important part of the manager's position, including delegating employees to organisation and store the purchased products away in the warehouse. The employer may ask the applicant for specific retrieval procedures when finding products that are being removed from the inventory, so the paperwork is done on time, figures are correct and shipping is done within a reasonable time.
