Pen Features

A blend between a traditional ink pen and a sumi brush, the Kuretake Brush Pen is a type of brush fountain pen. The brush tip is made of very fine nylon bristles, which allow for controlled brush strokes of ink. Attached to a cartridge of ink, the brush pen is capped, making for easy portability and no cleanup. The brush pens are generally sold with replacement squeezable bodies filled with ink, which act as ink cartridges.

The brush pen is modelled after the speciality brushes used in Asian calligraphy, called sumi. These brushes are generally made with a bamboo stalk and animal hair in a variety of textures. As opposed to Western calligraphy, which uses pens, Asian calligraphy uses brushes to achieve a variety of stroke textures. The Kuretake Brush Pen melds the two worlds, combining brush with pen. Though traditional Asian calligraphy is still primarily made with brushes, the Brush Pen offers an effective facsimile of style.

Painting and Sketching

Painters may utilise the Brush Pen to ink or blend lines and add texture to watercolour paintings. The Karetake Brush Pen comes in a variety of colours, making it useful for sketching with as well. The brush tip allows painters to imitate their stroke style as they sketch, creating a more realistic likeness of the design they would create on canvas.

Other Uses

The Kuretake Brush Pens are also useful in other arts and crafts. Create personalised invitations, birthday and celebratory cards and wall art. These easy-to-use pens create an elegant script in an elegant hand.
