Rust-Oleum Universal Paint is a complete line of rust-resistant spray paint that was introduced in 2008 by American paint and coatings manufacturer Rust-Oleum. This spray paint can be used on any indoor or outdoor surface including vinyl, glass and wicker as well as metal and wood. The exclusive packaging of this paint includes an ergonomic spray cap and its aerosol valve allows for spraying at any angle.

Primer Colors

While primer is not necessary for most applications of Rust-Oleum Universal, the line does include primer in two colours: traditional primer grey and plain white. The primer is meant to cover stains and surface imperfections so that paint adheres better and the final finish is smooth. Surfaces treated with Rust-Oleum primer can be painted with any Rust-Oleum or similar product.

Gloss Finish Paint Colors

Rust-Oleum Universal paint is available in a high-gloss, traditional spray enamel finish. The colours available in gloss finish include pure white, light "arctic" and dark "slate" grey, black, brown, bright "cardinal" red and deep "crimson" red as well as yellow, dark "hunter" green, medium "cobalt" blue and dark "sunset" orange.

Satin Finish Paint Colors

Satin finish Universal spray paint is available in three colours. These are white, black and dark "espresso" brown.

A satin paint finish is a matt finish that reflects less light than gloss or semigloss paint but still provides more of a visual texture than flat, non-gloss paint.

Hammered Finish Paint Colors

The Rust-Oleum Universal paint line includes a hammered, or textured, finish that is available in five colours. These colours include brown and black, as well as metallic silver, copper and bronze.

The hammered finish is similar in appearance to tooled leather or vinyl.

Metallic Finish Colors

Universal spray paint is available in metallic colours that include powdered or flaked metal for an authentic and durable finish that appears as if it were natural metal. The five metallic colours available are bright grey reflective "titanium silver," "pure gold," a slightly darker and less reflective grey called "satin nickel," "oil rubbed bronze" and a dark brown "metallic aged copper."

Flat Finish Colors

Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint is available in flat black or white. This finish is similar to that of simple indoor walls.
