Thank you messages for baby gifts

Updated November 21, 2016

Writing thank you notes for baby gifts you received can be a daunting task, both for the lack of time while preparing for the arrival of your baby, and for the writing of the notes themselves. Thank you messages can be short and sweet; a simple thank you for the gifts received is a perfect way to show your gratitude.

Choosing The Right Card

You can find a variety of colours and styles of thank you cards to make your thank you messages following your baby shower. These decorative cards can be found at any stationery store, or even a dollar store. Many times you will find blank thank you cards come with the baby shower invitations, coordinating with the same theme. You can also purchase blank cards from a craft supply store or office supply store and make your own cards.

What to Write

For thank you messages for baby gifts, you want to keep it simple. There is no reason to write a lengthy letter, as you more than likely have a stack of notes to write. Address it to the individual, using the first name, and write a few lines including a thanks for the gift you received. It's a good idea to name to specific gift they gave you at your baby shower to show your appreciation. Sign your name at the bottom to keep it personal.

What Not to Write

There are rules of etiquette when writing your thank you messages, and several things you shouldn't mention. Avoid being too general. Instead of writing "Thank you for the gift," write "Thank you for the diapers and onesies." Don't mention monetary value, requests for a gift receipt to return the items or receiving multiple quantities of the same item. Also avoid being overly gracious by saying "thank you" over and over again; once is enough for the thank you note.

When to Send the Messages

While you are busy planning for the arrival of your new baby, you may be hard pressed to find time for these handwritten thank you messages following your baby shower. You want to write and send thank you notes within one to two weeks of receiving the gifts. If you are unable to find the time, have your partner or spouse, close friend or family member do the writing for you. Provide them with the list of names and gifts received and look over the notes before sending them out.

Sample Thank You Message

The following is a sample thank you note that can be written after receiving baby gifts.

Dear ****_

Thank you so much for the pacifier, diapers and bootees. As a first-time mother, I am gracious for these gifts that I will most certainly need. I hope we can get together soon, once the baby is born.

Warmest Regards,
