How to Freeze-Dry Banana Chips

With their subtly sweet taste and crunchy texture, freeze-dried banana chips make a delicious and healthy snack. You can enjoy banana chips on their own, or with oatmeal, yoghurt, pudding or other snacks for a satisfying crunch and extra flavour. While you can purchase banana chips at most grocery stores, making your own can be a rewarding process.

  • 6 firm, ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

    Peel the bananas.

    Slice the bananas into chips. Cut them as thin as possible for faster freeze drying.

    Place the banana slices onto a baking tray. Arrange them in a single layer. Limit the banana slices' exposure to air to prevent them from browning.

    Stick the baking tray in the freezer.

  5. 5

    Freeze-dry the banana chips for about a week, before removing them from the freezer and letting them thaw. The banana slices will have dried completely and have become delicious banana chips.
