How to Clean Sheepskins

Sheepskins are organic materials used for seat and bed covers, rugs, clothing and other applications. Sheepskins require special care to remove dirt and debris because direct heat and harsh detergents can damage the structure of the skin and cause shrinkage. The soft wool side of sheepskins requires regular brushing and vacuuming to keep it soft, fluffy and free from dust. With the proper care, you can keep your sheepskin items looking their best.

  3. 3

Drain the water from the tub or sink and refill it with clean cool water.

  4. 4

Rinse the sheepskin in the clean water to remove any detergent residue.

  5. 5

Drain the water from the tub or sink, and press the sheepskin with your hands to remove any excess water.

  6. 6

Blot the sheepskin with a towel to remove as much water as possible.

  7. 7

Stretch out the sheepskin and lay it flat or hang it to dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat. It can take one full day for the sheepskin to dry completely.
