Drawing poultices have been used for centuries as a form of natural medicine to draw out splinters, boils, infections and abscesses under the skin. The benefit of these is that they are very effective, completely natural, and rarely cause adverse effects. When faced with an irritation under your skin, there is rarely harm in trying a drawing poultice. The best way to source effective plantain root is to check your local herbal foods supply store, or grow some yourself in your backyard from seed, also available at herbal remedy shops.
Mash some leaves of the plantain weed into a paste using your mortar and pestle.
Apply a layer of gauze over the area of the skin problem.
Place the ground plantain weed over the site, on top of the gauze.
Apply another two layers of gauze to hold the poultice in place. Tape the gauze and poultice to the skin around the affected area to hold it in place. Check the site of the irritation regularly, leave on as long as necessary. The irritant should be drawn out within 24 hours, but may be left on longer.
If your skin becomes irritated, remove the poultice and wash the area with soap and water.
